The Richard M. Hettenbach Memorial Scholarship was established in 2010 by Ivy Tech Community College - Southwest employees, family and friends. Dick was born in Evansville, Indiana, on January 20, 1936.
Dick worked at Ivy Tech Community College for 23 years as the Director of Career and Employment Services and then, after his retirement, part-time as the Admissions Tele-Counselor. He formerly worked at Mead Johnson and Medco.
Dick served as a Deacon on church council at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite.
Dick graduated from Reitz High School in 1954. He was the President of the Big Blue Boosters and an avid supporter of Reitz athletics. He graduated from Indiana State University of Evansville in 1958.
Dick enjoyed going to sporting events and watching his grandchildren. He loved spoiling his dog, Domino.
Dick loved working for Ivy Tech Community College where he could interact with the dedicated personnel and the students he cared for so deeply.
This scholarship was created as a loving tribute to Dick to help students in financial need who reflect the integrity and sense of purpose Dick held in his own life. This scholarship helps many students better their lives by providing them with opportunities they may very well have never been able to afford on their own.
